As fitness centres proliferate across Patna, Muzaffarpur, and other Bihar cities, health experts are drawing attention to a commonly overlooked aspect of exercise regimens: proper recovery nutrition. Many enthusiasts experience prolonged muscle soreness, which specialists attribute to incomplete post-workout protocols.

Dr Rajesh Kumar, a sports physiotherapist practising in Patna, explains that muscle recovery depends heavily on adequate protein intake and micronutrients. "Most people in Bihar consume traditional carbohydrate-rich diets but fall short on protein requirements after intensive training," he notes. Adults engaging in regular strength training need approximately 1.6 to 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily.

Beyond protein, magnesium and vitamin D deficiencies—prevalent across India—can significantly impair muscle repair. A 2022 study by AIIMS found that over 70% of Indians have insufficient vitamin D levels, which affects both bone health and muscle function. Fitness trainers now recommend targeted supplementation alongside whole foods like paneer, dal, eggs, and seasonal vegetables.

Experts also emphasise hydration and adequate sleep as non-negotiable recovery factors. "Supplements can support recovery, but they cannot replace fundamental practices like seven to eight hours of sleep and proper hydration," adds nutritionist Priya Singh from a Patna wellness centre. Those experiencing persistent soreness should consult healthcare providers to identify specific deficiencies through blood tests.
