The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has clarified that it has not imposed any ban on Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh following his unexpected departure from the much-anticipated film Don 3. FWICE president Ashoke Pandit addressed media speculation, emphasising that the film body's actions have been mischaracterised.
The controversy erupted after Singh withdrew from the Farhan Akhtar directorial, reportedly causing significant production delays and financial implications for Excel Entertainment. Industry sources suggest the actor's exit came after extensive pre-production work had already commenced, leading to concerns about professional commitments within the Hindi film industry.
Pandit stated that whilst FWICE has taken cognisance of the matter concerning workers' welfare and production house interests, the organisation has not formally banned the actor from future projects. The film body, which represents numerous technicians and daily wage workers in Mumbai's film industry, typically intervenes when abrupt project changes affect employment and livelihoods.
The Don franchise, which has previously starred Shah Rukh Khan and was rebooted with Akhtar's 2011 version, has now reportedly cast another lead actor. Singh, known for his roles in Padmaavat and Gully Boy, has not publicly commented on the matter. The incident has reignited discussions about professional ethics and contractual obligations in India's entertainment sector.
